Dry-Type Transformer
Details
A dry-type transformer refers to a transformer that uses solid insulating materials instead of oil immersion. There are multiple cooling options available for dry-type transformers, including natural air cooling (AN), forced air cooling (AF), and forced fan cooling.

Advantages
(1) Environmental Friendliness: Dry-type transformers do not require insulating oil, which eliminates the risk of oil pollution. Furthermore, as there is no risk of oil leakage, they are particularly suitable for environmentally sensitive locations.
(2) Low Maintenance Costs: Compared to oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers have lower maintenance costs. They eliminate the need for periodic oil replacement and oil sample analysis.
(3) Compact Footprint: Dry-type transformers generally have a smaller physical size compared to oil-immersed units, resulting in a reduced floor space requirement.
Disadvantages
(1) Weaker Insulation Performance: Compared to insulating oil, solid insulation materials typically offer weaker insulation performance, potentially increasing the risk of insulation aging and dielectric breakdown.
(2) Less Effective Cooling: The cooling efficiency of dry-type transformers is generally inferior to that of oil-immersed transformers, which may necessitate a greater number of cooling units or larger radiators to manage heat dissipation.
Applications
Dry-type transformers are suitable for sites sensitive to insulating oil or with specific environmental requirements, such as shopping malls, residential areas, hospitals, and other densely populated public spaces.
